FEMINIST PRAGUE

A digital map of places connected with the history of the women’s movement in Prague 1 and 2

Leave Charles Bridge and Prague Castle to others. We have brand new and definitely not so touristy sights for you. Maybe you pass them on your way to work or shopping and don’t even know it. Take a look at our digital map to see where women’s emancipation left its mark and which places were crucial for Czech feminism and its development.

Our new digital map will give you a new way of looking at places and specific buildings in the centre of Prague. You will get to know them from the perspective of active women and against the background of key events that led to women being allowed to study, vote, enjoy themselves or make decisions about their lives.

The map gives you the opportunity to visit ten places connected with the history of the Czech women’s movement. You will move between the Náprstek Museum, Charles Square and the Masaryk Embankment.

  • A brief history of the place;
  • Medallions of important women who are connected with the place;
  • Original photographs of the house and its surroundings;
  • Archival material from the Eliška Krásnohorská Archive and the Jiřina Šiklová Library.
